I was doing some searching on here and other forum on way and spindle oil. Numerous people mention that way oil do not have as high of a additive to keep the oil in play vs the old oil. As well as some other good ingredients. Is this true?
I was looking to get for my 1980 2HP variable speed mill a gallon of
Mobil Vactra #2 Way oil way oil ISO 68
Mobil Velocite #6 Light Spindle Oil (this oil lubs the power quill (front cup) and spindle bearing (rear cup)
However during searching it seems that Mobil Vacuoline 1390 is the old formula of way oil and people switch from #6 light spindle oil to Mobil DTE-24 for the head oil cups. The don't state why, but I'm curious. Some put spindle oil down the top of the machine where the drawbar goes, I guess to oil the splines of spindle?
However I'm curious if there are any better oils and cheapest place to get them. I avoid MSC like the plague.
