1959 Series 1 J Head Bridgeport-Need Assistance and Advice

Hi All,

I just acquired a 1959 Series 1 J Head Bridgeport. The motor and quill run well without any unnecessary noise but it's evident that the machine has taken a swift beating over its 54 year history. I would like to restore it seeing as the only ways and table got the worst of it. Other than that there's about 1/4" of backlash in the table and saddle feed handles and that's it. Is this machine in too bad a shape to reclaim? Can I produce good accurate work or should I have the ways scraped in? I'll let the pictures talk for me this time.

Sincerely,
