I have a venerable HCT, built in the manual speed change era,it has seen quite a lot of life but is still a good machine.
My problem is with belt slip, I have proper Hardinge belts fitted and they are in good condition but they slip under load, I have removed the buffer from under the motor plate to get a bit more movement but the belts still slip.
I wonder if the problem is with the speed cones themselves,I expect that they have been remachined over the years and there's too much space between them and the belts aren't under enough tension,my idea is to bring the two outer cones closer together but before I do this, has someone got a dimension of the correct distance between them.
Is this a good way forward or have I missed something?
Many thanks.
