Ive had this 1984 2J Bridgeport Series I mill sitting in the wings just waiting to get
restored fro over 10 years. Ive started on it a few times only to have a few dozen other
more pressing projects take president over it. But a few weeks ago I made my mind up to
get-er-done this time. Like the old Chevy trucks that I also spend my time with, who knows
what may have been, replaced, Jerry rigged or swapped around in the thirty plus years
during its commercial service life.
The real challenge the last week or so has been the Bijur oiler system. Ive downloaded
and printed out the M450 manual and figure 4-10 on page 4-27 isnt crystal clear as to
which metering units are used on the 10 port manifold. There are 8 metering units on the
manifold that output lubrication to the saddle but the numbers dont jive with whats on my
machine.
As I said earlier, who knows what the previous maintenance crew did to the mill. Its entirely
possible that they switched some metering units around. They are all FBJ 0s and 1s but
Id like to know the correct location and which lines they are supposed to feed. The
On of the Bijur documents gives formulas for selecting the correct restriction but its pretty
general I Im sure that when the 2J mills came from the factory, Bridgeport had that all
figured out. So thats what Im looking for, a clear schematic for the application of metering
units for this milling machine.
Thanks for any insight into this dilemma of mine.
