How to remove spindle on M head

Ok, tired of looking for instructions on how to get it out. Found numerous vague instructions, but most leave out important steps or don't make sense. Saw you tube on j head and is simple, but from what I could gather M head is more difficult? Thanks guys, Appreciate it. Ok, got it. That was the most difficult nut I have EVER EVER EVER removed. Spanner wrench didn't stand a chance. hammer and punch usually works in these cases, never had a problem with that it just buggers up a corner or two. Nope, not even. Then figured I would drill it and split it but didn't realize the nut was much thicker toward the center than on the edge, didn't want to drill too deep. A hammer, two chisels, one drill bit and two dremmel stones later I finally got it. This is what is left. Sure hope I didn't ruin the spindle.Click image for larger version.
