Repower with an AC or a DC motor?

My clone came with a 575v motor only so I need to repower it.
I have 2 choices at hand.
#1: a 1750rpm 1.4kw (1.875hp) 240/380v motor. Non-Cface motor but I have in the past cut a plate, used the end cap bolts as well as some carefully executed tig welds and converted it with great sucess.
#2 a 7000rpm 2.3hp 120v DC Permanent magnet motor. I know the RPM is high, but I would just place the v-belt on the 660rpm step instead of the 2720 and that would give me the full 80-2720 range?

With either I will need a PWM or a VFD. What would you guys do.
