My apologies to the neanderthal community, but your lathe care procedures perhaps need review....
This thing looks more like a '71 Pinto with 240,000 miles that never had the oil changed! Gunk is everywhere!
So after cleaning up the compound slide (including freeing the dial from the bushing which were rusted together) I thought a look into the cross slide and oil system was prudent. Ugg. The sludge grooves, I mean oil grooves in the carriage were basically filled with mud.
So I thought I should remove the pump and distribution block for a good cleaning. However, I can't seem to get either of them off of the carriage.
It looks like I could put something in the threaded hole of the oil pump to pry on, but I'm not sure that is the proper way to get the pump out of the carriage. How should I go about this?
I don't have any way of gripping the distribution block to pull it out either. Any help?
Thanks,
Scott
