Bridgeport M spindle and spline fit

I had a spindle with missing threads on the top, but I managed to get a second head with a good spindle, but bad bearings, so I figured I'd swap the spindles. I already sold the leftover parts, so I can't reference them.

I got the spindle all put back together - seems everything is fine.

Go to put the pulley housing on top and it won't go. Figured that the edges of the inside splines in the pulley are buggered up a bit, so I take a file to the edges.

It still won't fit - seems that it is a slightly different spline size.

Are there different splines for different years? My original head is very early and the donor one was later.

Steve
