Well I'm still looking for a lathe. I've been offered an HLV by the same dude that sold me my FP1. I saw it then but he said no ways would he sell it so I didn't take much interest. He must buy and sell machines for fun. I must say my first impression was that it looks kinda lightweight. He says this is a metric (what I want) HLV-P 3phase 380V with an elctronic variable speed drive? Would this be a DC drive or VFD? The dovetail ways on a HLV? Why aren't/weren't all lathes made like that if it is what was supposed to be best in a precision lathe? Is the action of the dovetail to pull down the ways onto the large flat on top? How does the tail stock (lathe is missing a fixed steady, which I need for my first job on a quality lathe) work, by sideways clamping? What kind of spindle nose, I need the biggest 4jaw with T-slots that the lathe would be ok with?
He wants about the equivalent of US$6000. Which is a bit rich for me for my small lathe, but if they are as good as they say I know I could enjoy getting into its work envelope. There's collets and a lever closer with, so small is no problem, I guess this could be a watchmaker's lathe, I wonder what's an easy big workpiece on this lathe?
Thanks,
Ant
