E head question

I am making some fussy little cog belt drives and my setup needs to stay for several days, when I put the shaper head in the horizontal position, it leaks badly, is this unit not supposed to be used this way? Why did they put reference marks all the way down to 90* if they hadn't intended for it to be used this way?
