DSM59/DV59 post 1960. Replacing that which goes between the lathe bed and the table

I'm cleaning up my DSM59/DV59 and have the lathe up on blocks. I am going to replace the gasket goes between the lathe bed and the table top. I called a repairer/part supplier in MA today about replacement parts. He suggested using cork. Not a bad suggestion. I was just wondering what others have done?



FWIW, the more I work on this lathe the more impressed I am about how well it is made.
