New to me Eztrak question - Manual 3rd axis resistance

Hi Everyone,

A couple days ago, I picked up an Eztrak DX with the 3rd axis option. It is the outrigger/cantilever early style. I have searched the forum and manuals, but I haven't found a definitive answer.

My question is that when I am manually operating the quill (Z-Axis), I can feel a good amount of drag from ballscrews and the gear reducer. I have the ball screw locking lever loose, is the anything else that I am missing?

The previous owner operated only in CNC mode. It doesn't seem right to me that bridgeport would design the option this way. Thank you for any insight/suggestions.

Here is a pic of the machine. I can't wait to get it running!
