Hardinge leadscrew taper pin removal, any advice?

Hello,
I would like to inspect and clean the carriage of my old HLV-H and to do so one of the steps is to remove the taper pin in the leadscrew.

From google I learned that there is a small hole in the leadscrew next to the pin, and this should be the large side of the taper. When I try to measure the (abused) pin, it seems the other way arround, next to the small hole it seems the smallest side of the pin?

Its confusing, and no matter which side I hit, the pin does not move.
I also read it can be broken, but thats not the case, I am pretty sure.

Any advice how to proceed? Should I heat? Freeze? Drill it out? Perhaps make a small template to guide the drill?

I am a bit afraid to destroy the tapered hole when I drill it, I am living in Holland and it would be hard to find the correct inch reamer to restore the hole I guess.

I hope someone here has the golden tip [emoji3]

Thanks,
Melle
