Series 1 Bridgeport knee elevation stop screw.

I am referring to the height stop screw in the base that stops the knee from being elevated too high and allowing the Jack screw to disengage from the nut or compromise the nut threads.
The machine I have been refurbishing was missing the screw. Question is, should the screw be tall enough to stop the very top of the knee or a boss that is immediately below the top a few inches?
Something tells me it stops against the boss, but I don't want to find out the hard way.
After over 45 years of using Bridgeport mills I never paid much attention.
Like they say, you learn something every day.
