Hey folks, next thing I'm looking into for this lathe is getting a jaw chuck on there... no doubt chucks with integrated 4-degree taper are rare and desirable, so I'll probably favour the adapter plate route. Buck sells both the adapters, and a good selection of chucks... is 6" diameter bigger than it can take? Reason I ask is they sell a nice self-centering 4 jaw but the smallest is 6". scroll four-jaw opens up the option to work with square bar easily, along with the usual larger round bar pieces... hex bar can be handled with hex collets.
Whatcha think? the last time I had a chuck on a DV, it was probably a 4 inch unit. but it seems like 6 inch should have no clearance issues...
looking on ebay, maybe not that difficult to get a 4-jaw independent with taper lock built in... might just go that route! opens up more options for sure with independent. the chuck would only be going on for non-production parts so it's certainly viable.
