I got this mill about 15 to 17 years ago. # 29351 I think built in the 60's. I also think it sat for a long time before I got it. I like Hardinge stuff. This is where my trouble started. When I got it was hooked up 440 but I assumed it could be switched to 220 with a few wire changes. Wrong! The motor is 440 only. I read on PM that you could hook 220 to a 440 motor just to see if the machine would run. It did but has no speed or power. I did not want to use a 440 transformer. Some change the motors and use VFD's . I wanted to just get the right 2 speed motor change the heaters and switch the controle transformer wire to low voltage. So off and on I looked for a motor. I purchased a Hardinge DSM to steel the motor out of. Motor shaft size was different so I didn't do that. I found someone that was parting out an older tm mill than mine that had what I thought was the right motor. Drove to Detroit met him at Names and picked up the motor. Thought cool I will get this mill running. Wrong again. I should of at least looked at my mill motor before I went to Detroit. I had it stuffed in a spot where I couldn't look at the motor. The new motor has a frame size of 204 and is 3/4 and 3/8 Hp with motor speeds of 1720 and 875. Shaft size is 3/4. The motor in my mill is much bigger in over all size. Frame size is X215. HP is 1 horse on high and 1/2 on low. Rpm is 1735 and 525. Shaft size is 1 1/8. So you can see the pulley wont fit and I would need to make an adapter mount. All this can be overcome. Hell I don't know if I even want the thing but I would at least like to try the thing before I get rid of it.
My questions are.
1 What size is the motor in yours? I thought they were all 3/4 and 3/8 HP.
2 My motor is a different Rpm than most. So spindle speed should be different. Mine are. Low 75,265,400,625. High is 220,800 1200, 1850. What are your speeds?
3 From what I have read these mills should have 2 belts from the jack shaft to the spindle.
Mine has 3. Is my machine an oddball. Does your machine have 2 or 3 belts to drive the spindle?
Thanks Mark.
