hardinge hxl up for grabs

Hia everyone,

I've been offered a hardinge hxl tape driven (I guess thats some sort of early cnc) lathe, local to me.

Its likely not working from the owners answers and I'm off to have a look (again) this week and see what works and what doesn't lol.

However its been installed in a clean office type room and looks in clean and well maintained condition, has a tailstock and probably has all the other accessories as it was being used in a small prototyping shop that were not machinists by trade. All the electronics are also included, it is complete (I think) and still installed where it worked.

I'm not sure I want it and I'm sort of up for selling it on, and not sure I want the work to retrofit it with some more modern cnc control system either.

It is however up two flights of stairs, so getting out might be fun.......

Questions;

Is it worth me having it in my shop, and going for the retrofit route, or sticking with the tape drive?

Does anyone here (uk) want it and if so, what would it be worth to you?
I'll take an colchester master or larger (mastiff, triumph) as a swop too. (I'm a Colchester nut!). Not really into parting it off in bits though. you provide transport, though I might be able to do something there....

I know this post perhaps ought to be in the sale or wanted section, but its a Hardinge!
Please move the post if I've transgressed in some major way, and apologies if so to the mods...

Anyway questions and advice wanted, and I really don't want to see it weighed in for scrap,which is what will happen if I don't get it... even though I do know these were a bit of a donkey even in their day as hardinge did try and buy 'em back....its just looks so nice and looks like it hasn't had that much use, and has a quality feel to all the metalwork. I know, I'm just a big softy when it comes to old metal!

As I'm completely skint at the mo, I'd like to see something in it for me, but hey I'm not a greedy person.

I'll try and get some more info later and some pics.

anyone interested?
